We were delighted to welcome pupils from several of our local primary schools on Tuesday afternoon to learn how to program in MIT Scratch. The afternoon was the first part of a project to build the coding skills of students before they arrive at Broadland. The new National Curriculum places a great emphasis on programming and we have already adapted our KS3 provision and have one of the only GCSE computing courses running in Norfolk. There were lots of great comments from the year 6 students, with many saying they would be going home that night to download Scratch and keep on coding!
The next step is to build on this workshop with a further session after Easter, leading to a competition in the summer.
For anyone interested in trying Scratch, it’s a free download here.
