Year 7 Art Focuses on Gaudi

Year 7 have been working on a buildings project in Art, inspired by the work of Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi, who is best known for his design of Barcelona Cathedral (Sagrada Família). Gaudi was well known for being a part of the Catalan Modernism movement, and his works were often individual and very distinct. Many of his works were influenced by his passions in life: architecture, nature and religion.

As part of the project, students had to re-design their own homes, based on a nature inspired design to give it a truly authentic Gaudi experience. Once the students had designed their homes, the buildings were then transformed into clay models. The models were then fired, and finally glazed by the students themselves.

The work has been done to an extremely high standard, and Miss Cooper, Head of Art, has expressed her delight at the project and how well the students have done. The work is currently on display outside the Art department, where a model village of student work has been created for display. A small sample of the work can be seen below:
